A Legacy of Excellence

Netball Division History

Few country clubs can rival the consistency, loyalty, and talent of the Yarrawonga Football Netball Club.
Since joining the Ovens and Murray Football Netball League (O&M) netball competition in the early 1990s, the Pigeons have built a legacy defined by determination, connection, and success — becoming one of the most accomplished netball programs in regional Victoria.

Foundations and Early Growth

When the O&M League added A and B Grade netball in 1993, Yarrawonga quickly established itself as a club that played with pride and purpose. The Pigeons invested heavily in developing local players, creating a strong junior pathway, and fostering a family-first club culture.

By the turn of the millennium, that groundwork paid off — with the club celebrating its first A Grade premiership in 2001, marking the beginning of a new chapter for Yarrawonga netball.

The Golden Era: 2007–2017

After early finals appearances and near misses in 2007 and 2008, Yarrawonga’s A Grade side entered a golden decade of dominance that would set a new benchmark for country netball.

  • 🏆 Premiers: 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012
  • 🥈 Runners-Up: 2013
  • 🏆 Premiers: 2014
  • 🥈 Runners-Up: 2015
  • 🏆 Back-to-Back Premiers: 2016, 2017

That’s six premierships and two runners-up finishes in nine seasons — a record that cemented the Pigeons as the powerhouse of the O&M League.

This was more than just a winning streak — it was a reflection of deep club culture. Many players had grown up together, families were deeply involved, and the values of teamwork, respect, and resilience became the hallmarks of Yarrawonga netball.

Resilience and Renewal: 2018–2025

Even after the golden era, the Pigeons remained a constant force.

  • 2018 & 2019: Preliminary final appearances
  • 2020 & 2021: Seasons cancelled due to COVID-19
  • 🏆 Premiers: 2022
  • 2023: Preliminary final
  • 🏆 Premiers: 2024
  • 🥈 Runners-Up: 2025

Since that first A Grade flag in 2001, Yarrawonga has now claimed nine premierships — 2001, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2022 — and made ten grand final appearances since 2009.

It’s a record unmatched in the O&M League and one that reflects the club’s remarkable ability to evolve, rebuild, and rise again.
